TEHRAN (IQNA) – The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) in a Fatwa (religious edict) described supporting Palestine as an Islamic duty.

The IUMS said in a statement that it is upon all Muslims to help the Palestinian nation in the face of the Zionist regime.

Every Muslim must contribute to supporting Palestine and those safeguarding Al-Aqsa Mosque as much as they can, it said.

The statement added that any move that serves the occupying regime, including recognizing the regime or normalizing ties with it, is Haram (religiously forbidden) and is considered participation in the crimes committed against the Palestinian nation.

The IUMS urged all Muslims to continuously help Palestine and Al-Aqsa financially, politically, and in other ways.

Israeli attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have been ongoing for over a week.

So far, the Israeli bombardments have killed at least 212 Palestinians, including 61 children and 36 women.

The asymmetrical Gaza war was triggered by repeated acts of violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank beginning last month and continuing to this day.

Since the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan, Israeli forces and settlers have harassed Palestinian worshipers at al-Aqsa Mosque. The regime’s military also forced Palestinians out of their homes in the occupied east Jerusalem al-Quds neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah to add to its illegal settlements.
