TEHRAN (IQNA) – A representative of Palestine's Islamic Jihad described the Al-Aqsa Flood operation as a “natural” response to long years of oppression and occupation.

“Given the ongoing crimes of Zionists against Palestinians during the past years, desecration of the al-Aqsa Mosque, and the fascist treatment against Palestinians, it was natural that Palestinians would give such a response,” Nasser Abu Sharif, representative of Palestine's Islamic Jihad Movement in Tehran, told IQNA on Monday.

The remarks come as armed Palestinian resistance forces launched an unprecedented operation on Saturday from the besieged Gaza Strip.

“This operation was a miracle,” Abu Sharif said, adding that Gaza is a region with a small area and limited facilities but has managed to obtain “major results” in this operation.

“The operation was a big failure for the Zionist regime’s intelligence and military,” he stressed as the regime has declared a state of “war”, launching relentless air raids on residential areas in the Gaza Strip since Saturday.

Pointing to the “unprecedented” fatalities of the occupation, he noted that this has undermined the trust of Israelis in the heads of the regime, he added.

The Israeli military image of “invincibility” has been questioned by the world public opinion, added the representative.

Prospects of Gaza-Israel war's expansion

He did not rule out the battle could extend to other regional countries, noting that it is too early to talk about the future of Gaza.

“A real regional war has not unfolded yet and conditions in the Gaza Strip are so that other resistance groups in the region would not leave the Palestinian nation alone in case of expansion of the battle.”

The Gaza Health Ministry said 704 Palestinians, including 143 children and 105 women, have been killed by Israeli strikes.
