TEHRAN (IQNA) – A representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement said all-out support for the issue of Palestine and the resistance against Zionist regime is essential for realization of Muslim unity.

Speaking to IQNA on the sidelines of the 37thInternational Islamic Unity Conference, Rasmi Abu Issa added that unity in the Islamic Ummah is not unrelated to the issue of Palestine.

He referred to the stance of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) in support of Palestine and said Imam Khomeini (RA) always reiterated that the issue of Palestine is fundamental for the Islamic Ummah and the path to Muslim unity.

The main practical step for achieving Islamic unity is remaining committed to the issue of Palestine and this is what Iran’s Islamic Revolution has done since the beginning, Abu Issa stated.

There are many differences in the Muslim Ummah on various issues but one thing that all Islamic countries agree on is the issue of Palestine, he added.

The Islamic Jihad official noted that the world’s Muslims love Palestine as it is part of the belief of the Ummah.

The first Qibla (direction which Muslims face when saying prayers) of Muslims is in Palestine and it is what can unite the Islamic world, he went on to say.

The 37th International Islamic Unity Conference, held both in-person and online, was inaugurated at Tehran's Summit Hall on Sunday.

More than 200 Iranian and foreign intellectuals and religious figures from various Muslim countries are participating in the conference, which is organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought. The event concluded on October 3.

The conference is annually held during the Islamic Unity Week.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on October 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (September 28) as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
