TEHRAN (IQNA) - An Arab Knesset member waved Palestine’s flag at Al-Aqsa mosque compound during the Maulid procession in occupied Al-Quds city, in a show of support to the Palestinian cause.

“The procession sends a message of liberty and peace and a desire to shake free the burden of the occupation in order to gain a normal and free life,” Ahmed Tibi, an Arab Knesset member, said during the procession, the Jewish Daily Forward reported on Sunday, January 4.

Held on Saturday, the procession was attended by hundreds of Palestinians who thronged to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), OnIslam.net reported.
Leading the procession, the United Arab List-Taal party lawmaker raised the Palestinian flag and called for “an end to the occupation”.
“Al-Quds [occupied Jerusalem] is Arab and the capital of Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of Muslim prayer,” declared Tibi.
He added that Al-Aqsa is “the crown jewel of Jerusalem, which will be the capital of Palestine,” Ynet reported.
Al-Aqsa is the Muslims’ first Qiblah [direction Muslims take during prayers] and it is the third holiest shrine after Al Ka`bah in Makkah and Prophet Muhammad’s Mosque in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
Its significance has been reinforced by the Islamic incident of Al Isra’a and Al Mi’raj — the night journey from Makkah to Al-Quds and the ascent to the Heavens by Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him).
