TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Gaza-based activist and head of a charitable organization says Palestinians can no longer trust in international law as it has failed to protect children in the face of brutal Israeli aggression.

Saleh Al-Kashif, Managing Director of Charitable Association For Palestinian Relief

“Today, we can hardly trust the words about international law and human rights. We can't believe the laws about the need to respect the rights of women and civilians and to protect them during armed conflicts. We can't believe in the Geneva Conventions and their promises,” Saleh Al-Kashif, Managing Director of Charitable Association For Palestinian Relief, told IQNA on Monday.

The Israeli aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7 has killed at least 13,300 people, including more than 5,000 children, amid the international community’s failure to put an end to the occupation regime’s atrocities.

“If the world wants these agreements, conventions, and global claims to remain valid and credible for the Palestinian and Muslim people, they must act fast and save the children, women, and civilians in Gaza,” he stressed.

Al-Kashif said the international community “must take practical steps and provide Palestinians with international support. They must also hold the criminals who killed these innocent people accountable and prosecute them for their crimes.”

The remarks come as people across the world celebrated November 20 as the World Children Day.

“Today is November 20th, World Children's Day, but we are seeing a terrible tragedy for Palestinian children. They are massacred and denied the basic rights of life. They lose their parents and homes and face brutal attacks. They have done nothing wrong except living and breathing in their own land, Palestine, and insisting on continuing their life there,” said the activist.

The activist further lamented the inaction of international bodies in protecting Palestinian children. “How can the United Nations General Assembly, UNICEF, and other national and local organizations claim to care about children and their rights, when we don't see any real action for the rights of these children in Gaza? It seems that November 20th is only for the children of the West, not for the children of Gaza, Palestine, and the Islamic world.”

‘All should speak up’

He also pointed to the need to raise awareness about Palestinian children across the world. “We all have a responsibility to speak up for these children and inform the world about their situation.”

“We should also demand legal action from the United Nations General Assembly, UNICEF, and other organizations around the world. We should expose the crimes of the Israeli regime and declare that the children of Gaza are in danger of genocide and mass murder,” he highlighted.

Al-Kashif also praised protests that have hit the streets of Western countries in support of Palestine in the past few weeks, however, noting that they are “still not enough to put real pressure on Western governments.”

“These governments continue to back and help Israel and provide it with arms,” he lamented, urging for increased pressure on supporters of the Israeli regime.
