The grand imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar honored a visually-impaired child who has learned the Holy Quran.

Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb granted the child, named Neda Abdul Rahman, a specialized degree of the Quran memorization, Al-Misrawi website reported.

He also gave her a cash reward for her achievement that has been made despite her being visually-impaired and having the Down syndrome.

Al-Tabeb hailed Neda for her perseverance and strong will and also appreciated the efforts of her parents to help the child.

Earlier, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar honored the winners of an annual Quran memorization competition organized by the Islamic center.

The contest was attended by more than 180,000 individuals from all over Egypt, some 1,200 of whom had made it to the finals.

Eighty of the finalists who won ranks in different categories were honored at the closing ceremony.

The annual Quran competition of Al-Azhar is organized for the center’s students with the aim of identifying top Quranic talents and promoting Quran memorization and recitation.
