TEHRAN (IQNA) – A student of medicine at Egypt’s Alexandria University won the top prize in a Quran competition for girls in the United Arab Emirates.

Ayah Jamal Abdul Latif Bikr Muslim came first in the Hessa bint Muhammad Prize for the Noble Quran.

Talking to an Egyptian satellite TV channel, Ayah said she started learning the Quran by heart at the age of four and managed to memorize the entire Quran at 14, el-Balad News reported.

Memorizing the Quran was a blessing in her life, she said, adding that it helped her enter the medical school.

Ayah added that learning the Quran by heart also taught her many values that are necessary in life.

The competition is annually organized by the Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Institute in cooperation with the UAE’s Education Ministry and its Islamic Affairs and Awqaf Department.

Fatima Hassan al-Ubaid from Syria was the runner up in this year’s competition and Somalia’s Fatima Mahmoud Ali came third.
