TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s al-Azhar al-Sharif Islamic institution has a special committee that is tasked to review Quran before being published.

Egyptians have been active in reviewing Quran during the history and al-Azhar’s committee is considered the oldest one with such a role in the world.

According to Elbalad, the committee is tasked with reviewing the text of Quran with rules of orthography and Tajwid among other elements.

The committee has so far prevented the publication of several editions due to mistakes in their writing.

One of the conditions for becoming a member of the committee is having a mastery in different related fields of knowledge such as recitation, orthography, and Tajwid, said Abdul Karim Saleh, head of the Quran Review Committee.

He stressed that any printing of the Qur'an in the world can be sent to Al-Azhar Al-Sharif for final review because of its strong credibility at the global level.
