TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali (AS) holy shrine in Najaf, Iraq, has been actively involved in Quran reading programs in the holy month of Ramadan.

According to imamali.net, a group of Qaris from the Holy Quran Center of the Astan attended two Quran recitation sessions held by the Dar-ol-Quran of Imam Ali (AS) at Shirazi and Al Khalifa Husseiniyah in the holy city of Najaf.

Zargham Abu Al-Tabouq, head of the Quran recitation section of the Dar-ol-Quran, said that since its establishment in 2009, the center has organized Ramadan Quran recitation sessions at the two Husseiniyahs as well as the Husseiniyah of late Abd Ali Naji, Amir Al-Muminin (AS) Mosque near the holy shrine and at Al-Khazra Mosque.

He said the Astan's affiliated Holy Quran Center will continue holding the recitation sessions aiming to support Quranic activities and disseminate the Quranic culture.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. It is a period of prayer, fasting, charity giving and self–accountability for Muslims around the world.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.

They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
